The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) caught two people. They believe these people were planning crimes and mining without permission. They were also carrying rocks that looked like Iron ore in Akwa Ibom.
The NSCDC also caught two other people for breaking power lines in Ikot Akpan Okop village, which is in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state.
On Wednesday, Mr. Eluyemi Eluwade, the head of NSCDC in the state, talked to reporters at their exhibit yard. He said they caught the two people for mining without permission early on August 26. They were carrying 1,200 bags of rocks in a big truck with the number plate TYN 157 XA.
He said the rocks were taken from the Ibeno beach area and were being moved to Port Harcourt.
“Our team got a tip-off about the illegal mining and quickly went to the mining place.
“We stopped the truck at Eket LGA. The driver and another person were caught because they could not show a mining license or proper papers for the rocks,” Eluwade said.
Eluwade further said that the other two people were caught on August 25 for breaking power lines. The people admitted that they broke the lines to sell them as scrap metal.
The state head of NSCDC said breaking power cables, telephone lines, oil pipes, street lights, and other important things is wrong. He also said that mining without Government permission is like stealing from the Government and stops them from making money needed for their work.
Eluwade promised that the NSCDC will keep fighting against such crimes. He assured that all these people will go to court once the investigation is done.
