The vice chancellor of the University of Ahmadu Bello, Tsaria, Professor Kabiru Bala, says that northern Nigeria, particularly the state of Kaduna, is witnessing first -hand of the consequences of deforestation and degradation of the earth, the erratic rain patterns, the increase in temperatures, the erosion of the soil and the decrease in agricultural productivity.
He announced on the International Day of Agra/Narls/Eco-Clime/Trive Agric/Frin, held in the Ultra Modern Naerls, Tsaria.
Professor Bala added that these challenges disproportionately affect small farmers, who form the backbone of our agricultural economy.
According to the Vice Chancellor, who is also president of the occasion, the launch of the agroforestry component of the Agra Kaduna Consortium project represents a significant step forward.
“The ambitious plan to plant 200,000 trees in 375 hectares in six areas of the local government of the state of Kaduna demonstrates a specific commitment to action.”
This is not simply an environmental intervention, it is an investment in the resilience and prosperity of our agricultural communities.
In his comments, the state commissioner of the state of Kaduna, Alhaji Murtala Dabo, said that the commemoration of the International Forest Day 2025 and the official launch of the Tree and Agroforestism Plantation project of the agra Kaduna Consortium is a temporary and important event.
Dabo said that this important occasion represents not only a celebration of our forests, but a reaffirmation of our commitment to restoration, sustainable management and conservation of our natural ecosystems for the benefit of present and future generations.
He said that the issue of this year's International Forest Day, “Forests and Foods”, underlines the vital relationship between forest ecosystems and human well -being.
Forests function as critical regulators of global climatic patterns, biodiversity repositories and services of essential ecosystems services that maintain millions of livelihoods worldwide.
According to him, in the state of Kaduna, they recognize that sustainable forest management is not only an environmental imperative but also a fundamental element of our economic resilience and social development strategy.
He added that the state of Kaduna has taken a significant step in environmental administration and food security with the launch of the planting and agroforestry project of the agra Kaduna consortium.
This initiative exemplifies our dedication to the implementation of Earth's use practices based on evidence and sustainable through the strategic integration of perennial plants loved with agricultural crops and cattle systems.
