Listen up! The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, also called NiMet, says we will see storms and rain in Kano and other states from Tuesday to Thursday.
They shared this news on Monday in Abuja. They told us to get ready for heavy rain and strong winds, especially in the north, center, and south of Nigeria.
NiMet says on Tuesday morning, there will be storms in Bauchi, Kebbi, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Adamawa, and Kaduna.
Later on Tuesday, the whole northern part of the country will probably have thunderstorms.
“In the North Central region, there will be storms in the morning in places like Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Niger states. In the afternoon, the storms will also hit the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa states,” NiMet said.
Rain in Central and Southern Regions
In the central region, NiMet forecasts storms over Kogi, Benue, Plateau, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, and Niger states on Tuesday morning. In the afternoon, there will be more rain over the FCT, Kwara, and nearby areas.
For the southern region, expect moderate rain in Ebonyi, Imo, Enugu, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Delta, Cross River, and Bayelsa states. NiMet said, “Later in the day, there will be on-and-off rain over the whole region.”

NiMet also said that “strong winds might come before the rains in places where storms are expected,” and urged everyone to “follow safety advice from relevant authorities.”
They advised airline operators to get the latest weather reports to plan effectively.
NiMet told people, especially those living in areas that flood easily, to be very careful because there’s a high chance of flooding in big cities. Everyone should follow safety tips from authorities and check for weather updates on NiMet’s official platforms.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) reported that severe flooding in Nigeria from April to September 2024 has affected over 1 million people.
According to NEMA’s Director-General, Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the floods have displaced about 625,239 people and caused 259 deaths.
Borno State spent N20 million on flood and erosion control in the first half of 2024, which is just 2.45% of the allocated funds. The state got around N816.34 million from the Ecological Fund from January to June 2024, an 8.89% increase from the previous year. This shows that a lot of the money meant for important infrastructure was not used, raising questions about how well the state is prepared to handle environmental challenges.
