Nigeria, Republic of Niger, promises to strengthen the economic cooperation of security

Nigeria and Republic of Niger have reaffirmed their commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation in the areas of economy and security, after a high -level meeting between their ministers of foreigners in Niamey on Wednesday.

The promise was made during a work visit by Nigeria Foreign Minister, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, his Nigerien counterpart, Mr. Bakary Yaou Sangaré, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Nigeriens abroad.

During the meeting, both ministers discussed several issues of mutual interest, with a particular emphasis on improving cross -border trade, improving market links and advancing cooperation in energy and infrastructure development.

The two countries also underlined the importance of maintaining joint efforts to counteract terrorism along their shared border. To this end, they agreed to maintain collaboration among their respective defense ministries.

As part of the efforts to promote regional integration, the ministers reviewed joint infrastructure projects, including the Kano-Katsina-Jibiya-Maradi Railway, the Trans-Saharan gas pipe, the Trans-Saharan Highway and the Trans-Saharan Fiber Optical Project. In addition, they agreed to expand cooperation in socio -political, economic, scientific and cultural spheres.

To consolidate the existing profits, both nations promised to revitalize the Joint Commission of Nigeria-Niger (NNJC) and proposed the establishment of a joint advisory forum to facilitate the dialogue between the key interested parties of both countries on shared challenges and opportunities.

The visit concluded with Mr. Garraré accepting an invitation to make a reciprocal official visit to Nigeria, with the date that will be announced through diplomatic channels.

The meeting reflected lasting fraternal relations between the two residents of Western Africa, who expressed a common resolution to strengthen bilateral ties for the benefit of their villages.
