The Nigerian disease control and prevention center (NCDC) has placed the country on maximum alert after confirmation of an ebola virus disease outbreak in Uganda.
According to the general director of the NCDC, Dr. Jide Idris, the agency is taking proactive measures to prevent the spread of the disease in Nigeria.
Ebola is a rare but serious disease caused by the viruses of the genus Ébolavirus, which spreads humans through close contact with infected animals or the transmission of humans to humans through body fluids, contaminated or material surfaces.
The disease has led to multiple outbreaks in Africa since its discovery in 1976.
The NCDC has activated its emergency response system to improve surveillance, contact tracking and infections prevention and control measures.
This movement aims to protect Nigerians from the potential spread of the disease.
