NDLEA Seizes Tramadol and Cannabis Valued at N16.6 Billion at Lagos and Port Harcourt Ports

Must Read

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has caught illegal drugs worth 16.6 billion naira on the streets. They found these drugs in Lagos and Port Harcourt ports.

To find these drugs, NDLEA worked with the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and other security teams. They carefully checked containers at both ports to see what was inside.

The NDLEA shared a statement: “We stopped 26,250,000 tramadol pills and 508,400 bottles of codeine syrup. Together, these drugs are worth 16,683,800,000 naira. Our team checked the containers with the Customs Service and other security teams at Tincan port in Lagos and Port Harcourt port in Onne, Rivers state.”

This is a big case. The illegal drugs, like tramadol, codeine syrup, and cannabis, were hidden in large shipments flagged for inspection because they looked suspicious.

More Finds

  • NDLEA officers found 2,118 tramadol pills hidden inside 13 pairs of shoes at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. These shoes were supposed to go to Cyprus on October 12.
  • In Enugu, agents found 380 more tramadol pills, 968,880 naira in cash, and a Toyota Avalon. They caught a suspect named Okenwa Kelvin Uchenna.
  • In Lagos, NDLEA took drugs from three courier companies, including 1,690 kg of cannabis, and some ampoules used for injections, and more tramadol pills.
  • These drugs were on their way to the USA, UK, and Oman.

The leader of the operation in Lagos said, “We found these hidden drugs by doing regular checks and using smart tracking to know where they were going.”

Canada’s Connect

  • During checks at Tincan port, Lagos, NDLEA also found 10 million tablets of Toradol Benzhexol and 28 large drums of methamphetamine, weighing about 700 kg.
  • They also found 56 packages of synthetic cannabis, weighing 28 kg, coming from Canada.
  • Officers caught a man named Tsolaye Eburajolo in Lagos. He is suspected of trying to bribe officers with 10 million naira to get released.
  • The bribe is now evidence, and the suspect will be taken to court, according to NDLEA.
  • They also caught Umar Muhammed, a big drug dealer, in Abuja when they found 198.5 kg of cannabis connected to him at Wuse Market Park.

More arrests happened in Lagos, Plateau, Edo, and Osun states, where NDLEA found lots of cannabis and other illegal drugs.
