Hey there! We have some news. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, also known as NDLEA, found some sneaky drug shipments. They caught people trying to send drugs like cocaine and painkillers (like tramadol and morphine) hidden inside shoes and clothes to different countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Cyprus.
NDLEA said they found more than five kilograms of these drugs packed in clothes and other things like household items. These were supposed to be sent through courier companies in Lagos. They even found 250 grams of cocaine hidden inside custom-made shoes going to Cyprus.
Femi Babafemi, who speaks for NDLEA, told us this news on Sunday.
He also said that NDLEA found a special type of synthetic cannabis called ‘Loud’ coming from Canada to Lagos. This weighed about 440 grams and was found in one of the shipment companies.
Also, on Wednesday, July 10th, NDLEA officers in Edo state stopped a car at Ewu junction. They found 3,000 pills of tramadol hidden inside custard containers (a kind of food container) in the luggage of Aminu Abdullahi, a 32-year-old man. He said he bought the drugs in Onitsha and was taking them to sell in Abuja.
In another operation, on Thursday, July 11th, NDLEA officers went to Ohen forest in Edo and found a huge cannabis farm. They destroyed 5,429.751 kilograms of plants and arrested four people. Two days later, they found 300 kilograms of cannabis at Uzzeba Obi camp.
In Ogun state, they found nearly 2,865 kilograms of cannabis and lots of materials to make a new drug called Akuskura in a warehouse. In the same week, they arrested a man with 47 kilograms of cannabis in Katsina and found a huge stash of nitrous oxide, which is also known as laughing gas, in a warehouse in Lagos.
The boss of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, praised his team for doing a great job stopping these drugs. He told them to keep up the good work and continue making Nigeria safe from drugs!
