NDLEA Removes Husband Approval Requirement for Married Women

Must Read

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said that married women don’t need their husband’s permission to apply for a visa. They’ve heard people’s concerns and are changing this rule.

The NDLEA shared this news on X (what used to be Twitter) on October 10, 2024, after lots of people talked about it. They had already taken the rule down from their website.

Femi Babafemi, who talks to the media for the NDLEA, explained that they are looking at all the visa rules again because different countries have different requirements.

“The rule about needing a husband’s letter was never meant to be required,” explained Babafemi. This idea started because of problems in some other countries.”

The NDLEA wants everyone to know they have removed this rule and are still reviewing all the other rules. They’ll share more updates soon.

“We promise the public that this rule is gone from our list, and we’ll tell you more about the changes soon.”

What you should know:

  • The NDLEA clarified the rule didn’t come from them or Nigeria. It was from other countries.
  • These countries are very careful about who enters because they worry about drug problems.
  • The NDLEA’s job is to help follow these international rules and make sure Nigerians who travel are following the law.
  • In 2021, the NDLEA said that for eight countries, a special visa paper was needed. These countries are Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Brazil, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Russia. They have strong laws against drugs and check borders carefully.
