NDLEA Drug Seizure and Efforts in Plateau

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has taken away a lot of illegal drugs from Plateau State in the last two years. In total, they seized 6,975.6 kilograms of drugs.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (retired), shared this news in Abuja when Governor Caleb Mutfwang came to visit him. They found many drugs, including cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.

Due to these actions, 1,720 people were arrested. Out of these, 156 were found guilty, and the rest are still in court.

Marwa praised the governor for working hard to keep Plateau peaceful and safe for everyone. He asked the governor to help build a good rehab center for people who use drugs. He also suggested starting groups to control drug use at the state, local, and community levels.

He encouraged the governor to introduce drug tests in schools, homes, and communities in Plateau State.

Governor Mutfwang, earlier in his visit, praised Marwa for his amazing leadership since he became the NDLEA chairman in 2021. He said,

“We have been watching how well you have been doing your job. Since you started, NDLEA has become more energetic and determined.

Many people who sell illegal drugs are finding it hard because of you.

“We are seriously worried about how drug abuse and illegal drug trade are hurting our state. We came to find better ways to work together to stop this problem.

“We will keep looking for ways to reduce drug abuse in our society. While we have focused a lot on the users, we also need to look at the people supplying these drugs.

“As a state, we are ready to work more closely with you to make sure we reduce this issue as much as possible. We are here today to make our cooperation even stronger.

“So far, we have had good support from your staff, and we want to continue sharing information and finding ways to work together,” he said.
