The Katsina branch of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, or NDLEA, stopped a person they think was trying to smuggle cocaine to the country next door, Niger.
This news was shared by the new head of the state branch, Mr. Mohammed Aminu-Abubakar, during his first chat with news reporters in Katsina. He talked about how the team found about 0.642 kilograms of what they believe to be cocaine on the person.
Last Friday, Mr. Aminu-Abubakar started his job as the state commander. He said the person got caught on October 2nd by the NDLEA officers on the road that goes from Kano to Kankia.
Mr. Aminu-Abubakar mentioned that they are still looking into everything, and when they are done, the person will go to court to talk about what happened.
As the new boss, he promised to use all the tools and tricks the law allows to stop people who sell or move drugs around. He wants to make it harder for them to do business.
He also talked about places where people who have trouble with drugs can get help in the state. He asked everyone to stop using drugs because it’s not good for them.
Everyone in the state should try using drug test kits as they can help catch any drug problems early and stop them from starting.
Mr. Aminu-Abubakar is keen on working with his team and other security groups to lessen how much drug misuse happens around them.
Before coming to Katsina, Mr. Aminu-Abubakar worked for NDLEA at the Strategic Command Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos, taking over from Mr. Hassan Sani, who has moved to work at the national office.
