The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has caught a big drug boss named Alhaji Sulaiman Jimoh, also known as Temo, in Lagos.
Temo has avoided the police for two years but is now finally in custody after a big operation.
The NDLEA, through Femi Babafemi, the Media & Advocacy Director, shared that Temo, who is 57 years old, was captured after a face-off with his group. No one got hurt during this operation despite the resistance.
The Chief of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), praised his team for their hard work and skill. He said, “Capturing Temo without anyone getting hurt shows our commitment. This should warn others who are still selling illegal drugs. If they don’t stop now, we will catch them too. They can try to run, but they can’t hide forever.”
Background
For the last two years, the NDLEA has seized a lot of illegal drugs linked to Temo. Even after fights with his gang, Temo always managed to escape, until now.
Some recent drug hauls include:
- 14,524.8 kilograms of very strong cannabis, hidden in two trucks and a bus, caught in Lagos on January 28, 2024.
- Two trucks weighing 8,852kg, intercepted at Eleko Beach, Lekki, on May 4, 2023.
- 252kg of the same drug from his base in Mushin on July 26, 2023.
In recent operations, Temo’s gang even shot at NDLEA officers.
Temo was always on the move to avoid being caught. But with hard work and new tracking tools, the NDLEA found him at Igbarere Street, Mushin, at 10 am on July 22, 2024.
About 50 officers were brought in when Temo tried to run away in a Mercedes Benz SUV GLE 350. He tried to get some local troublemakers to help him escape, but the police overpowered him and arrested him. They also took his vehicle. Temo’s capture is a strong message to other drug dealers. The NDLEA is committed to stopping drug trafficking in Nigeria.
