The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has decided to pause the new rules for polytechnics in our country.
Newslodge shared that this pause happened because the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) was unhappy with some parts of the new rules. They had warned the Federal government to take back these new rules by Monday, or they would go on strike.
ASUP didn’t like some parts of the new rules and asked to remove them.
The news about stopping the new rules was given in a letter on July 19, 2024. The letter was signed by Professor Idris Bugaje, the leader of NBTE.
Newslodge got a copy of this letter in Ilorin on Friday. The letter was sent to the Governing Council, Rectors, and Provosts of both federal and state polytechnics.
In the letter, it says: “Because of many concerns about the June 2024 rules, I want to let you know we are stopping them until we fix all the problems.”
