Navy Transfers 9 Suspected Human Trafficking Victims to NAPTIP

Must Read

In Lagos, Nigeria, the Navy caught nine people who might be victims of human trafficking. They gave these people to a group called the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, or NAPTIP, who help people like them.

A person named Lt. B.C. Awodeyi told everyone about this event. She works as the person who shares news for the Navy.

The people who might have been in trouble were caught by a group called the Forward Operating Base, or FOB, from the Navy.

This happened on October 11 and October 13. Let’s talk about each day:

On October 11, around 4:21 in the afternoon, the Navy team at a place called T-Junction in Badagry stopped a boat. This boat was going to a place called Panshi Jetty from Mile 2, Lagos.

When the Navy checked the boat, they found five young women who might have been tricked. The women didn’t know where they were going, which is a sign they needed help.

These ladies were told to call a number on a piece of paper once they arrived at Panshin. Someone was supposed to pick them up and take them to another country for a “better life.”

The Navy saved these women, who were ages 19 to 32, and took care of them safely.

On October 13, around 3:15 in the afternoon, the Navy stopped another boat near Tongeji Island, Badagry. This boat was headed to a place called Panshi Owode.

The Navy found four more young women who also didn’t know where they were going. They were told the same thing – to call a phone number, and someone would take them to another country.

The Navy saved these women too, who were ages 19 to 24.

On October 15, all nine people were given to NAPTIP in Ikeja, Lagos. This was to help find out more details and see what needs to happen next.

The Navy is very serious about keeping people safe. They work hard to stop bad things like human trafficking. They follow their boss’s plan to protect the shores and seas around Nigeria and make sure everything is peaceful and secure.
