National Chairmanship Dispute: AA Apologizes to INEC, Urges Ignoring Faction’s Claims

Must Read

The Action Alliance (AA) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ignore claims from Rufai Omoaje’s group. They want INEC to recognize Kenneth Udeze as the true National Chairman.

In a letter to INEC’s chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, AA stated that many court decisions have confirmed Udeze’s leadership. They said this against Omoaje’s claims.

The letter, signed by Kenneth Udeze, accused Omoaje’s supporters of spreading false information. They said Omoaje’s group is trying to mislead INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

Udeze mentioned the Supreme Court’s decision in case number SC CV 1259/2022, which didn’t remove him from his position. He also referenced the Court of Appeal’s decision in case CA/ABJ/CV/955/2022, which confirmed his election.

AA warned not to recognize Omoaje, stating that his appeal to the Supreme Court is not valid. They assured INEC and Nigerians that Udeze’s leadership is legal and supported by courts.

The letter says, “It’s important to clarify that the Supreme Court’s ruling in SC CV 1259 2022, mentioned in some anonymous messages, does not remove Kenneth Udeze as the National Chairman of AA.

“It was an abandoned appeal where the Supreme Court was asked to delay proceedings. This was after Omoaje got permission from the Court of Appeal to challenge a decision by Justice Eneojo Enenche, which reinstated Kenneth Udeze as the rightful National Chairman of Action Alliance.

“The Court of Appeal heard his case, dismissed Omoaje, and confirmed Kenneth Udeze as the true AA Chairman. Omoaje has appealed this decision to the Supreme Court in case SC CV 162 2024.

“As of now, this is the only case about the leadership of the Action Alliance before the Supreme Court, and it hasn’t been heard yet.”
