The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has applauded President Bola Tinubu and the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, for their achievements in the development of refineries.

In a statement signed by the NANS Senate President, Afeez Akinteye, NANS highlighted that the operational readiness of the new refinery marks a critical turning point in Nigeria’s efforts to address its long-standing challenges in oil refining.

According to the statement, the development is a testament to the commitment of the Federal Government and NNPCL to reposition Nigeria’s energy sector for sustainable growth and national self-reliance.

In the statement, the group of students revealed their plan to visit the refinery to learn about the operations of the facility, assess its impact on national development and explore opportunities for collaboration to empower Nigerian youths.

While NANS urged Nigerians from all sectors to extend their support to the NNPCL and the federal government, he added that the rehabilitation of this refinery is a step in the right direction.

“Following deliberations at the plenary session of the 86th Senate session of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) held at the Lagos State University, we extend our heartfelt commendation to the Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his visionary strides in ensuring the commissioning of a new refinery in Nigeria. This remarkable development is a testament to his commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s energy sector to achieve sustainable growth and national self-reliance.

“The operational availability of the new refinery marks a critical turning point in Nigeria’s efforts to address its long-standing challenges in oil refining. It promises to significantly reduce our dependence on imported petroleum products, ensure the availability of fuel at affordable prices and contribute to job creation while promoting national economic stability.

“This achievement highlights the focused leadership and pragmatic policies of President Tinubu, whose administration continues to demonstrate determination in addressing pressing national challenges. It also underlines the competence and dedication of the management team of NNPCL in the execution of critical infrastructure projects that directly benefit Nigerians.

“In line with our role as a voice of Nigerian students and advocates for national progress, NANS leadership will conduct an on-site visit to the refinery. This visit aims to gain first-hand information on the operations of the facility, assess its impact on national development and explore opportunities for collaboration to empower young Nigerians through potential employment and skills acquisition initiatives within the energy sector. .

“Furthermore, we urge Nigerians from all sectors to extend their support to the NNPCL and the federal government. The rehabilitation of this refinery is a step in the right direction, but the full realization of its potential, along with the reactivation of other idle refineries, requires a collective national commitment. Together we can chart a path toward energy independence, economic sustainability and shared prosperity.

“NANS remains steadfast in its commitment to advocate for policies and projects that enhance the delivery of a refinery on-site visit. This visit aims to gain first-hand information on the operations of the facility, assess its impact on national development and explore opportunities for collaboration to empower Nigerian youth, the well-being of Nigerian students and contribute to the growth and development of our great nation. We once again congratulate President Tinubu and the NNPCL team for this ground-breaking achievement and reaffirm our readiness to partner to build a better future for Nigeria,” he said.
