Following the voluntary resignation of its Secretary, Dr. Abdullahi Kontagora, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Usman, appointed Alidu Shutti as Acting Secretary of the Commission. Hajj. with immediate effect.
Dr. Kontagora resigned from his position on December 6.
A press release signed by NAHCON Information and Publications Division Deputy Director Fatima Sanda Usara and made available to Tribune Online on Wednesday announced the new appointment.
Prior to this role, Shutti served as Director of Inspection and Compliance at NAHCON since 2023.
According to Usara, Shutti will serve in an acting capacity until a permanent secretary is appointed to the Commission. He noted that Shutti is an experienced Hajj and Umrah administrator and a dedicated NAHCON staff member.
He has worked at the Commission in various capacities since 2007, rising from the lower levels of the public administration to the position of Director.

“He has served as Head of the Tour Operators Division; Deputy Director, Licensing Division; Deputy Director, States and Zones; Deputy Coordinator of the Mecca Office (2022 and 2023) and counting.
“Alhaji Shutti obtained academic qualifications including a Master of Public Administration (MPA), a Bachelor of Islamic Studies and also a Diploma in Journalism.
“He gained additional knowledge about the Hajj by attending related local and international seminars in the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, among others.
“Having demonstrated in-depth knowledge of Hajj operations, Alhaji Shutti is perceived to possess the necessary experience to lead the Acting Secretary's office that will lead to a smooth and successful Hajj operation,” Usara said.
