The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued an alert over the unauthorized production and sale of an unregistered drug in the country.
The product name is B-GAG Healthy Medicine with batch number 0070.
According to NAFDAC, the product was detected during surveillance activities in Maiduguri, Borno State, and Keffi, Nasarawa State.
The NCDC in a statement on Tuesday said the drug from Babban Agalawa General Enterprises has not been approved by the agency.
NAFDAC noted that the product was found to have no assigned registration number and had misleading labelling information.
He added that the product may pose potential health risks to consumers and urged the public to be careful and avoid using unregistered medicines.

The statement said the coordinated effort is aimed at removing unregistered drugs from the market and ensuring public safety.
“Consumers and caregivers are advised to exercise caution and be vigilant to avoid using the product. All medical products should be obtained from licensed or approved suppliers,” NAFDAC said in the statement.
“The authenticity and physical condition of the products should be carefully checked. Healthcare professionals and consumers are advised to report any suspicion of sale of substandard or counterfeit medicines or medical devices to the nearest NAFDAC office.”
Counterfeit injection
Recently, NAFDAC issued an alert over a counterfeit batch of Giga-S injection identified in Aba, Abia State.
He said the counterfeit product was purchased at a well-known store located in the Ariara Market in the southeast of the state.
According to the agency, “Giga-S Ceftriaxone + Sulbactam Inj. 1.5g IM/IV” is indicated for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible organisms, including septicemia, pneumonia, and meningitis.
NAFDAC said it is essential to detect and withdraw the product, which may have been distributed to other parts of the country, from circulation to avoid harm to patients.
