The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday destroyed several categories of harmful products worth N10 billion in Gombe.
The Director General of the agency, Mojisola Adeyeye, said during the event that the items were seized in six states in the North Eastern region: Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Taraba, Gombe and Yobe.
The NAFDAC boss, represented by NAFDAC Zonal Director Kenneth Azukwe, said the products include food, medicines and other regulated items.
He added that the goods were seized thanks to the diligent efforts of law enforcement and regulatory agents in the area, who worked tirelessly to intercept and confiscate the dangerous items.
He noted that “NAFDAC is at the forefront of ensuring that only quality and safe food, medicines, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals and packaged water are sold and consumed in Nigeria.
“With a strong commitment to protecting and promoting public health, NAFDAC has implemented rigorous standards and innovative practices that set a benchmark not only in Nigeria but also on the global stage.
“Our agency's dedication to excellence is reflected in its comprehensive regulatory framework, designed to safeguard the health of millions.

“As we move forward with this exercise of destruction, let it serve as a clear message to unscrupulous individuals and entities that NAFDAC will not relent in its efforts to protect the health of Nigerians.”
He explained that the agency would continue to strengthen regulatory frameworks, improve surveillance and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
“Through meticulous inspection, cutting-edge technology, laboratory analysis and strict enforcement, NAFDAC ensures that only the highest quality products reach the market,” he said.
According to her, unwavering vigilance has earned NAFDAC international recognition and collaboration with leading health organizations around the world.
He highlighted that NAFDAC adopted advanced technologies and fostered a culture of continuous improvement.
He said, “NAFDAC remains agile and responsive to emerging challenges in the dynamic public health landscape.
“Today's exercise is a testament to our commitment to rid the markets of substandard, counterfeit and harmful products that pose serious risks to public health.
“These products, if allowed to circulate, can cause untold harm to countless people.
“By removing them from circulation, we take a decisive stance against those who seek to profit at the expense of public safety.”
NAFDAC Coordinator in Gombe, Mr. James Agada, said some expired products were voluntarily handed over to the agency, reiterating NAFDAC's determination to safeguard the lives of the masses.
For his part, the Gombe State Commissioner for Health, Habu Dahiru, commended the agency for the good work which he said contributed to reducing the spread of diseases.
