My Marriage Ended Because of My Dedication to Acting – Yetunde Wunmi

Must Read

The well-loved Yoruba actress, Yetunde Wunmi, talked about what she gave up for her acting job.

The now 64-year-old shared in an interview with BBC Yoruba that she began acting on stage in 1982 with a theater group called ‘Feyi Kogbon,’ led by Sunday Akinola.

Yetunde Wunmi shared stories from her almost 40 years in the film world. She mentioned that her love for acting caused her marriage to end, but she stayed committed to her craft.

“I always remember Adelove. He brought a play to Danjuma film near my home. That day, he was in all white clothes and drove a white car,” she said.

“Everyone rushed to see him, and I also got close enough to touch his clothes. It felt like I touched something very special, like gold. That’s when I really wanted to be in theater.”

“Though I lost my marriage because of my love for theater, I do not have any regrets being an actress. God has been kind to me,” she reflected.
