Must Read

The Nollywood movie “Muri and Ko” has made over N100 million from ticket sales in Nigeria.

Filmoneng, a big movie company in West Africa, reported this on Monday, June 8, 2024.

The movie came out on June 12, 2024, and made N50 million in its first week. This showed that people really liked it.

After three weeks, the movie had made N89 million. People kept going to see it.

The movie stars Kunle Remi, Bisola Aiyeola, and Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori (Kiekie). Also in the movie are Femi Jacobs, Buchi Franklin, Charles Okocha, Gloria Anozie-Young, and Fiyinfoluwa Asenuga.

Kunle Remi, one of Nigeria’s top actors in 2023, helped make the movie popular. He has been in Netflix movies like “Anikulapo,” “Praise Party,” “The Kujus Again,” “Love and Lust and Other Things,” “Malaika,” and “Something Like Gold” which made him very famous last year.

What to Know

The movie was directed by Biodun Stephen and produced by Inkblot Productions and Stephen herself. Her movies do well in cinemas and on streaming sites.

Biodun Stephen is one of the best female producers in Nollywood. She likes to name her movies after the main characters, like in “Tiwa’s Baggage,” “Ovy’s Voice,” “Ehi’s Bitters,” and “Sobi’s Mystic.”

She started making movies in 2014 with “The Visit,” which was loved for its simple yet interesting story.

“The Visit” got two nominations at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards in Lagos. She has also helped make “Breaded Life” and directed “Sista,” which made her even more known in the movie world.

More Insight

“Muri and Ko” is about Muri (played by Kunle Remi), a street hustler in Lagos. His life changes when he accidentally steals a car with a child inside.

The movie shows Muri’s struggle as the child’s parents put a reward out for the child’s return and the police get closer. Muri has to decide whether to return the child safely or face big problems.

The movie’s success shows that Nollywood movies are getting better and more popular. The big money it made shows that people liked the story and the acting. It also shows that more Nigerians are watching homegrown movies. The teamwork between Biodun Stephen and Inkblot Productions worked well because they mixed good storytelling with strong production.

As more people watch the movie, it shows how important it is to have different stories and well-developed characters to keep people interested and help the Nigerian movie industry grow.
