The call for the release of Nnamdi Kanu continued last Monday, with his family appealing to President Bola Tinubu to release him in honor of late Ohanaeze leader Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been detained since he was repatriated to Nigeria from Kenya in June 2021 under controversial circumstances.

The family appealed to Mr. Tinubu to grant freedom to Mr. Kanu in the same way he (Tinubu) freed Yoruba nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.

In a related development, the legal team of the IPOB leader on Wednesday appealed to the Nigerian government to secure bail for the IPOB leader or provide a conducive environment for his trial.

Thugs destroy the residence of the former senator and the university study center

On Monday, hoodlums razed the residence of former Senator Frank Ibezim in Imo State.

Ibezim represented Imo North District under the All Progressives Congress platform between 2021 and 2023.

In addition to Mr. Ibezim's residence, the thugs also attacked a study center of the National Open University in Nsu community that same night.

State police later announced the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the attacks.

Student dies in car accident during 'riotous' celebration after final exams

We reported on Tuesday that a student was killed in a car accident on the Enugu Institute of Management and Technology campus on Monday, when some students were celebrating the completion of their final year examinations.

A graduating student, in a celebratory mood, was driving recklessly before the car plowed into a crowd of students.

In addition to the deceased victim, two other students from the school's public administration department were injured in the accident.

Later, the institution's management banned celebrations after the exams.

On Thursday, gunmen killed two police officers in Uruagu, a community in Nnewi North Local Government Area of ​​Anambra State.

The attack came barely two weeks after gunmen invaded the Umunze divisional police headquarters in the state and killed two police officers.

Armed men behead couple in Abia

Gunmen on Tuesday night beheaded a couple in Bende Local Government Area of ​​Abia State, indicating the worsening state of insecurity in the South East.

The thugs were said to have dismembered the victims' bodies after killing them.

Police have since announced the arrest of three suspects in the attack.
