The number of people with Monkeypox in Benue State is now 20. Four new tests came back positive.
Dr. Asema Msuega told this to news reporters in Makurdi.
Dr. Msuega said the confirmed cases are in two areas: Makurdi and Gwer West. Suspected cases are in five areas: Ushongo, Katsina-Ala, Gboko, Makurdi, and Gwer West.
He also mentioned that they think there’s a new case in Gwer East, and they’ve sent samples to the lab to check.
Dr. Msuega said three people who had Monkeypox were treated and went home from the isolation center at Benue State University Teaching Hospital. The fourth case was confirmed last Friday at the main lab.
He added, “The new patient is still at the isolation center and is getting better with treatment.”
Many of the suspected cases are no longer in isolation. Not everyone has to go to the hospital; some can stay isolated at home, just like during COVID-19.
Dr. Msuega said, “We are teaching people about Monkeypox and how to stay safe. This includes washing hands and not having close contact with others, especially if they might be sick.”
“It’s important to find and report cases early to the nearest health centers, whether primary, secondary, or tertiary.”
