The Nigerian Medical Laboratory Sciences Council (MLSCN) has been granted to the Relay Certification of the International Standardization Organization (ISO) for its National External Quality Evaluation Laboratory (NEQAL).
In addition to Neqal's re-acreditation, 8 laboratory facilities also obtained MLSCN accreditation in the country to produce internationally acceptable results.
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, while pronouncing his speech in the formal receipt of the MLSCN and the presentation of accreditation certificates to deserving medical laboratories, congratulated the MLSCN and the laboratories accredited by this achievement earring.
He emphasized the importance of a precise and reliable laboratory diagnosis in modern medicine, highlighting its role in the early detection of diseases, treatment decisions and the best results of patients.
The minister also praised management and MLSCN staff for his dedication, professionalism and commitment to excellence.
He urged other laboratories in the country to emulate accredited facilities improving their infrastructure, labor and processes.
Salako reiterated his priority agenda to face the charlatanería in the health sector, emphasizing the essential role of regulatory bodies such as the MLSCN.
He averaged his support to ensure that all public and private laboratories in Nigeria are registered with the MLSCN accreditation service and the Neqal program.
“The event was a testimony of the Nigerian government's commitment to prioritize medical care.
“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restored budgetary financing for all regulatory health agencies, demonstrating the special position occupied by the health sector on the national agenda,” he said.
In addition, the MLSCN registrar/CEO, Dr. Tosan Erhabor, expressed concern that despite the obvious benefits of EQA/PT, the participation of public and private laboratories remains poor and inconsistent.
This inconsistency, said Erhabor, undermines the integrity of the Nigeria diagnostic system and exposes Nigeria's health system to vulnerability.
Therefore, he asked the State Minister to make a decisive government pronouncement that requires the participation of all government and private hospitals, and private laboratories, to register in the MLSCN accreditation service and the EQA/PT scheme of the test of MLSCN quality domain.
This said the policy would ensure that each laboratory in Nigeria adheres to the rigorous standards.
“Promote a culture of responsibility and consistency in diagnostic services, which will be a game change that guarantees each Nigerian, regardless of location, receives the same high level of diagnosis precision.” Said.
