The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria, known as MLSCN, has started checking medical labs and their workers in Ebonyi State.

The head of MLSCN in Ebonyi, Mrs. Onyekachuku Okeke, said they are serious about this check and warned that any labs without a proper license would be shut down.

Mrs. Onyekachuku Okeke said she visited all the important people in the health sector when she started her job to make sure everything goes smoothly.

She said, “The Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria has the job to control medical labs in the country. Based on orders from the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, we have started checking all medical labs across Nigeria.”

“Because of these orders, we have started telling everyone, especially lab owners and workers in Ebonyi State, that we are beginning this checkup.”

“I met with important people, like leaders of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria in Ebonyi, the Ministry of Health, and security forces, to work with us and follow our rules.”

The chairman of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Mr. Emmanuel Okeh, warned that any fake lab workers without proper papers would be arrested and taken to court.

He said, “Things will not be like before. Some people used to do anything they wanted and gave a bad name to real lab workers. Now, if we find out that you are pretending to be a lab worker, we will arrest you.”

“If you know you are not qualified to run a lab or work in one, you should close your lab.”

“If you have a lab, you must register it with the Ministry of Health in Ebonyi state, then follow the rules with MLSCN.”
