Residents of the state of Sokoto have been advised to remain alert since cases of alleged meningitis continue to increase in some areas of the local government.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by Nura Bello Maikwanci, the Public Relations officer of the Ministry of Health, Health Commissioner, Dr. Faruk Umar Abubakar Wurno, confirmed that laboratory tests have identified several cases of the disease.

The statement said: “To stop its dissemination, the Ministry has intensified the surveillance, case management and public health interventions.
“We make residents take preventive measures, including the search for immediate medical care if they experience symptoms such as fever, severe headache or neck stiffness.”
The statement also emphasized the importance of personal and environmental hygiene, avoiding overcrowded places and guaranteeing adequate ventilation in homes and public spaces.
The commissioner asked residents to report any suspicious case to the nearest health center. He assured the public that Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto has provided essential medicines to health centers throughout the state.
