A court in Lagos, Nigeria, decided that a 40-year-old man named Noah Oke should go to jail for three years. Why? Because he had some Cannabis sativa, which is not allowed.
The good news for Noah is that he doesn’t have to go to jail if he pays one million naira. That’s a lot of money!
The people from a group called NDLEA, who make sure no one has illegal drugs, took Noah to court. The big boss in charge of making decisions, Judge Lewis Allagoa, was the one who listened to the case.
In court, they asked Noah if he did what they said. He said yes, which means he agreed that he had the drug even though he shouldn’t have.
After that, a lawyer from NDLEA, Mr. Aondofa Korinjo, showed some things to the court to prove that Noah did something wrong. The important people in the court agreed these things were important to show who was right.
Mr. Korinjo asked the judge to say Noah was guilty because he already said he did it and because of the proof they showed.
The judge listened and decided that Noah really did break the law. So, he got punished.
They said this happened on August 21, in a place called Seme in Lagos State.
NDLEA said Noah had a kilogram of Cannabis sativa, which is not just bad but against the NDLEA rules from 2004!
