Man Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison for Land Fraud

A court in Ikeja has sentenced a man named Abodurin Abozo to eight years in prison. He tricked another man into giving him N62 million by pretending to sell him two plots of land.

Justice Ismail Ijelu said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had enough proof that Abozo lied and stole money. Abozo told Mr. Samuel Segher, the man who gave him the money, that he would get two plots of land at Chevy Estate Ojomu in Lagos. But this was all a lie.

After the payment was made, Abozo told Mr. Segher that he owned the land. But when Mr. Segher went to see the land, he found out that someone else had already built on it. No matter what he tried, he could not get his money back.

Justice Ijelu then gave Abozo a prison sentence of seven years for the first crime and one extra year for the second crime. This makes a total of eight years. Abozo was also ordered to give back the N62 million to Mr. Segher.

The EFCC had taken Abozo to court on October 15, 2023, but Abozo said he was not guilty when he heard the charges. He was also charged along with his company, SGB & A Property Lines.

Because Abozo said he was not guilty, the EFCC lawyer, Mr. Spiff Owede, started the trial. He called two people to tell what they knew about the case, while Abozo spoke alone in his own defense.

The prosecution, or the side against Abozo, also showed the court many important documents, including statements Abozo had given before. The court accepted these as evidence.
