Community Stops Kidnapper in Jos

People living in the NEPA area of Jos North Local Government in Plateau State caught a man who they think is a kidnapper. This man took N1.5 million from the families of the children he took.

The police officer in charge of talking to the public, DSP Alabor Alfred, said the police are checking to see what happened. They are doing this at the special unit that deals with kidnappings.

A local protector, who did not want to tell his name, said that after the man was caught, the people gave him to the local protectors right away. They later took him to the police station at Laranto.

The local protector explained that the kidnapper took two kids, one 4 years old and the other 5 years old. He didn’t return them even after the ransom of N1.5 million was paid.

He said that people passing by heard the children crying in an empty house and rushed to see what was happening.

“When they got there, the kidnapper tried to escape by jumping out of a window, but everyone started shouting ‘kidnapper!’ Men and women in the community came quickly and caught him,” the protector said.

“They then gave him to the community protectors, who took him to the Laranto Police Station. They also took with them N1,492,000, which was the ransom he had received,” he added.
