NSCDC Arrests Fake Officials in Ogun State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ogun State has caught a man named Oluwatobi Salami, who is 30 years old. He pretended to be an official from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Army.

Another person, 20-year-old Idris Zakari, was also caught. He was caught damaging railway parts in Ifo local government area.

Both men were shown to the public at the NSCDC headquarters on Kobape Road, Abeokuta, on Tuesday. The head of NSCDC in Ogun State, David Ojelabi, said that people in Sagamu community saw Salami acting as an EFCC official at OGD International Market. They gave him to the NSCDC.

Ojelabi said, “Salami pretends to be an official of the EFCC and also pretends to be a soldier in the Nigerian Army.”

He was caught on Saturday, August 10, 2024, and had EFCC jackets and clothes that soldiers wear.

Ojelabi also said, “Idris Zakari, who is 20 years old from Bagudu Local Government, Kebbi State, was arrested on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the railway in Ifo local government area while damaging railway parts.”

“Zakari was caught by So-Safe Corps. They gave him to the NSCDC for more investigation and possible legal action.” Ojelabi mentioned.

The head of NSCDC said that damaging government property is a big problem for the country’s economy and will not be allowed.

He added that both suspects would be handed over to the right authorities for more investigation and likely punishment.

The NSCDC will keep working with other security agencies and the public to stop crime in the state.

Meanwhile, Salami told reporters that he stole the EFCC uniform from a hotel in Lekki, Lagos State. He also had someone print the Nigerian Army logo on a vest he bought so people would think he is a soldier.

He said, “I took the uniforms from a bag I found in a hotel in Lekki. I don’t wear them often but took pictures wearing them and sent them to my friends, telling them I am an officer.”

“I like going to Lagos dressed as an officer. I am really sorry for what I did and hope the government will let me go free because my parents are dead,” Salami added.
