The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) has shortlisted 87 lawyers for the conferment of the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) for 2024.

LPPC Secretary Hajo Bello, who also serves as Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, announced this in a public notice on Thursday.

The list of new SAN appointees was approved at the 164th plenary meeting of the LPPC, chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, on Thursday.

The list of new SAN appointees was approved at the 164th plenary meeting of the LPPC, chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, on Thursday.

The SAN rank is a prestigious honour bestowed upon distinguished members of the legal profession, recognising their excellence as advocates and academics.

During the meeting, the LPPC examined five petitions against some applicants. All the petitions were found to be unfounded and were dismissed.

The swearing-in ceremony for the 87 selected candidates is scheduled for September 30, during the special session of the Supreme Court marking the beginning of the new judicial year. This event traditionally takes place at the Supreme Court.
