The New Nigeria Peoples Party, or NNPP, just celebrated a big win in Kano. They won every single spot for local government leaders and councilors—44 chairmanships and 484 councilors to be exact!
The person in charge of telling us the results was Professor Sani Lawan Malumfashi, who leads the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission, also called KANSAIC. He said that six parties participated in the election. These parties were AA, AAC, Accord, ADC, APM, and NNPP.
Professor Malumfashi explained how they planned and carried out the elections just like they are supposed to according to the law. This was for local government elections in Kano State, Nigeria.
He said, “The whole event was peaceful and went really well. We want to thank everyone who helped make it happen. Thanks to the police, media, political party leaders, and groups like the civil society organizations, as well as religious and community leaders. Young people and women groups also played a big role. You all helped make democracy happen close to home in our local communities.”
He continued, “We are also really thankful to the people living in Kano State. Your support, good thoughts, and cheerfulness made everything possible.”
Professor Malumfashi said that the calm and smooth elections showed that people believed in the process. It was fair and everyone was happy with how it was done.
