LASG Assures Residents: No Monthly Environmental Sanitation or Movement Restrictions in July

Must Read

The Lagos State government has said no to the rumors about starting monthly cleaning days with movement restrictions in July.

On Wednesday, Adekunle Adeshina, who speaks for the Environment Commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, said the news is not true. He stressed that the state is not planning any such rules.

Wahab explained that the false news is from people trying to confuse everyone.

He asked all residents to ignore the false story and continue with their daily activities. He made it clear that there will be no travel restrictions on the last Saturday of July as the rumor claims.

“Lagos State Government on Wednesday dismissed a false viral news on social media, clearly saying that the State has not re-introduced the monthly environmental sanitation and has no plans to start any movement restriction by the end of July.”

“In a statement signed by the State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, he said the viral news is from people who want to confuse residents.”

“He asked all residents to ignore the false viral news and go on with their lawful activities. He said there will be no movement restrictions on the last Saturday of July as mistakenly mentioned in the false news,” the statement read.

Environmental Sanitation to Remain a Weekly Exercise

Wahab also shared that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during a Sunday cleaning awareness event at Campos playground in Lagos, said the sanitation will continue as a weekly event.

The Commissioner said that the Governor did not announce that the monthly cleaning and movement restrictions would begin in July or any other time soon.

“Wahab explained that what Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said on Sunday during a cleaning awareness event at Campos playground Lagos island was that the state will start a weekly community-based cleaning and awareness exercise involving all residents.”

“Tokunbo Wahab added that at no time did the Governor say that the monthly cleaning and restriction will start in July or any other month for now.”

“The Commissioner urged all residents to always keep their surroundings clean and not wait for the government to declare a specific month for the start of sanitation or movement restriction,” the statement added.

What You Should Know

Earlier, some news outlets (not Newslodge) reported that the Lagos State government planned to introduce monthly environmental sanitation with movement restrictions starting this month, July.

The false report said that Governor Sanwo-Olu had launched the monthly cleaning campaign in Lagos State again.

However, the environment commissioner, Tokunbo Wahab, has denied the report. He said the news is misleading and incorrectly represents what the governor said.

It is good to know that Lagos used to have monthly environmental sanitation years ago, but this was changed to a weekly activity later on.
