The Lagos State governorship candidate from the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, criticized the Lagos State Government for not taking quick action to manage floods.
Rhodes-Vivour said this during an interview on a TV program on Channels Television that was watched by DAILY POST on Thursday.

Remember, Lagos had heavy rain on Wednesday, causing a lot of flooding in the city.
When talking about this, Rhodes-Vivour criticized the government’s efforts to handle floods and other disasters.
Rhodes-Vivour asked the government to make rules to protect wetland areas. These rules could help reduce and manage the damage caused by yearly floods.
He said, “What hurts me the most is seeing the government act quickly when it comes to tearing down buildings. But when it comes to floods like this, we don’t see them act fast.
“We don’t see emergency workers on the ground. We don’t get early warnings like, ‘Stay away from these roads.’ There were no roadblocks to keep people safe.
“I don’t feel like saying, ‘I told you so.’ Anyone who loves Lagos and knows its history would have seen these floods coming long before they happen,” he said.
