Lagos Government Closes Churches, Hotels, and Other Establishments for Environmental Violations

Must Read

The Lagos State Government has closed down some places in the state to keep the environment clean and protect people’s health. They did this in areas like Ikeja, Mushin, Gbagada, and Maryland.

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) said they shut down places like Vital Products Limited, A & P Nigeria Limited, Polite Anchorage and Suites, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Terrag Inn Apartment, Evening Class Guest House, Celestial Church of God, a printing press, Charley’s Bar, and 7th Heaven Hotel & Suites.

On his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said these places broke environmental rules even after they were warned many times.

To stop noise and other environmental problems, LASEPA closed several places in Lagos.

“The operations happened in Ikeja, Mushin, Gbagada, and Maryland to make sure people follow environmental laws and to keep everyone healthy. Among the places closed are Vital Products Limited, A & P Nigeria Limited, Polite Anchorage and Suites, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Terrag Inn Apartment, Evening Class Guest House, Celestial Church of God, a printing press, Charley’s Bar, and 7th Heaven Hotel & Suites,” read the statement.

The statement also said that when businesses ignore environmental rules, they can make people sick and make it hard for the government to keep Lagos a nice place to live. Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of LASEPA, said they will keep taking action until everyone follows the rules.

Things to Know

Lately, the Lagos State government has closed many places for not following environmental and health rules.

Big markets like Mile 12, Ladipo, and Oyingbo were shut down but let open again only after meeting strict sanitary and environmental rules.

Other places like fast food joints, hotels, and restaurants have also been closed for not staying clean. For example, Cravings & More, a fast food place on Egbeda-Idimu Road, was shut down for dumping waste into public drains after many complaints from people.

The Lagos State government said they will keep working hard to make sure everyone follows the environmental rules, so the city stays clean and healthy.
