The Lagos State Government has ended its 25 per cent refund on fares for all state transport services.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) made the disclosure in a statement at its official address X.
“The 25% bonus on the fare of buses, ferries and train services of regulated public transport ends on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
“As of Monday, June 3, the transportation rate on all regulated transportation services in the state will return to its original rate of 100%,” the statement reads.
The state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced on February 23 a 25 percent discount on tickets. With the announcement, he extended a 50 percent rebate for six months starting July 31, 2023, to mitigate the impact of the removal of the fuel subsidy.

“The reduction in fares of the regulated public transport system has resulted in the state government spending efforts and resources on transport subsidies to alleviate the pain associated with the elimination of the fuel subsidy carried out in May last year,” the statement added. .
