Lagos Assembly confirms candidates for government agencies

The Lagos State House of Assembly on Tuesday confirmed the appointments of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu's candidates to the State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and other agencies.

The confirmations followed the selection of the candidates by a 12-member House ad hoc committee, chaired by the Chief Whip, Hon. Mojeed Fatai.

Speaking before confirmation, the Hon. Fatai stated that the committee conducted a thorough review of the credentials and experiences of each candidate, adding that they are all well qualified to hold government positions.

Echoing this sentiment, a member of the House, the Hon. Sa'ad Olumoh, described the nominees as “round pegs in round holes.” He further noted that their impressive credentials and professional experience make them ideal candidates for their respective roles.

Apart from LASIEC, the House approved nominations for the Office of the State Auditor General, the General Manager of the Lagos State Electricity Board (LSEB) and the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF).

Among the confirmed appointees are the Hon. Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile (Rtd.) as LASIEC Chairman, Samson Ajibade, Oluwo Akin Durojaiye, Dr. Metilelu Olumide Olusola, Aileru Abeeb Dapo and Hon. Oladele Adekanye as members. Mr. Adetola Muyiwa John was confirmed as the State Auditor General, while Eng. Balogun Kamaldeen Abiodun Temidayo was appointed as the Director General of LSEB. Mrs. Feyisayo Alayande was confirmed as the Executive Secretary of the LSETF.

The Vice President, Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who chaired the plenary session, confirmed the nominees and emphasized that the development underlines the Assembly's commitment to improving governance and providing quality leadership across Lagos State.
