Kwara: Police Officers Involved in Fatal Incident Remanded in Ilorin Prison Custody

Must Read

Three police officers in Kwara State have been put in jail by a court in Ilorin. Their names are Mr Abiodun Kayode, Mr James Emmanuel, and Mr Oni Philip.

The court said they did something very bad, like planning to hurt someone and causing death. This is about a student named Qoyum Abdulyekeen Ishola, who was studying electronic engineering at Kwara State Polytechnic.

This sad event took place on September 4, 2024. It happened on Afolabi Olaleye Street near Kayowa Filling Station in Ilorin.

Police Prosecutor Olajide Emmanuel told the court that on September 5, 2024, in the evening, a phone call was made for help. The police boss, Victor Olaiya, asked investigators to look into it carefully. On the day it happened, around 5:15 p.m., a man named Abdulrahman got a call from his family saying his grandson was found hurt and bleeding on the street.

When Abdulrahman arrived, he found his grandson, Abdulyekeen Abdulqoyyum, hurt very badly. Abdulqoyyum said a policeman hurt him before he was taken to a hospital. Sadly, the doctors couldn’t save him.

The police caught the three officers because they think these officers were involved in Abdulqoyyum’s death.

The investigation showed that these officers left their job location and went to where the student was. There, they chased him, hurt him, and left him to suffer.

Court evidence revealed that one officer, Oni Philip, ran after Abdulqoyyum because Abiodun Kayode told him to, and then left Abdulqoyyum bleeding to tell Kayode and Emmanuel.

The investigation found out that all three officers worked together, chased, and hurt Abdulqoyyum on purpose, leading to his death. They were charged with these serious crimes.
