The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State says they are ready for the local government elections.
The opposition party, however, says it will not support any illegal actions. They believe these actions are traps to cancel the election results if they do not favor the current government.
The statement was signed by Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP State Publicity Secretary. The party supports the recent court order that stops the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) from moving forward with the local government elections scheduled for September 21, 2024, until the case is decided.
The PDP says that the court order is good news for the people of Kwara State. The order blocks a plan by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to trick the people before the upcoming local government elections.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, along with KWSIEC, broke some rules of the Electoral Act on purpose. This was done so that if the election results did not favor him, he could get someone to cancel the elections in court because the rules were not followed.
The PDP’s quick action stopped this plan, ensuring that the people’s hopes are not crushed by the governor’s political tricks. The party is fully ready for the elections and was the first to submit the names and details of their candidates for all positions.
The PDP believes that Governor Abdulrahman is not truly ready for the local government elections. He is only being forced by a Supreme Court decision on local government independence.
The governor wants to ensure that his chosen candidates win so he can continue to take money meant for local government areas. The court’s decision has saved the Kwara voters from this trap. This order shows the PDP’s commitment to protecting the democratic rights of the people.
