The Kwara State Government has urged women in the state to undergo regular screening for breast and cervical cancer to protect themselves against the diseases.
The government made the call when it announced on Tuesday free breast and cervical cancer testing at the Bode Saadu Primary Health Centre, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The ceremony, performed by the state Commissioner for Health, Amina El-Imam, aims to improve the health of people, especially women, across Kwara State.
At the event, Mrs. El-Imam charged women of reproductive age to make the most of this important health initiative provided by the current administration, emphasizing the importance of regular examinations to maintain a healthy life at all times.
She added that breast and cervical cancers are the leading causes of death among women worldwide, but early detection significantly improves the chances of successful treatment and survival.
“Prevention is the most effective method to combat breast and cervical cancer. Early screening and detection could save lives. This extension, however, is an essential step in ensuring that Kwara women remain healthy and protected.”
In his remarks, the Director of Personnel Management of Moro Local Government, Arinde Olamilekan, expressed his gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his commitment to improving the health standards of his people, through initiatives such as this cancer screening exercise. .

Furthermore, the representative of the district head, Ahmed Amusa, who spoke on behalf of the community, called on the Moro people to continue supporting the government's efforts to provide essential health services to the population.
