As the Edo State governorship election gets closer, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has asked everyone involved to remember that the election is not a fight.
Yusuf Dantalle, the National Chairman of IPAC, said this in a statement after a meeting on Sunday. He explained that the purpose of the election is to choose leaders who will help the state grow by promoting good governance and accountability.
He asked all parties in the election to focus on peace, fairness, and justice. He also suggested that everyone work together to ensure the election is free and fair.
Dantalle reminded everyone that an election is not a battle but a way for people to choose their leaders in a democracy. The job of these leaders is to make sure the state is run well and honestly.
He further stressed, “As key players, we should focus on peace, fairness, and justice. Let’s join hands to ensure the election is fair and open.”
Dantalle asked everyone to follow democratic rules, respect others’ rights, and think about what is best for the people of Edo State and Nigeria as a whole. He invited all to join in to strengthen democracy in Nigeria.
He also urged voters to come out in large numbers on Saturday and vote without any fear. Voters should choose candidates based on what they stand for, their past work, and their ability to lead well.
The council asked voters to reject any offers to buy their votes because it damages democracy. They should remember that their choice is important and must be respected.
Dantalle emphasized that choosing leaders is the people’s responsibility, and this is what makes democracy special.
He said that true leaders should serve selflessly and should never force themselves into power.
The IPAC chairman also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to be fair and neutral. He pointed out that their unbiased roles are essential for maintaining voters’ trust and confidence in the election process.
