The Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate and prosecute the accused Speaker of the House, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa if you find it wanting.
Spokesperson of the party, Hakeem Amode, revealed that it is not enough for lawmakers to allege and not press further to establish the truth in the allegations.
He urged members of the Lagos State House of Assembly to petition the EFCC and provide the anti-graft agency with facts and figures necessary for a thorough investigation.
Speaking to Tribune Online, Amode said: “The State Assembly is constituted by law and they have the right to choose who leads it.
“So they have the right to impeach and re-elect another legislator to lead them. This is your constitutional right. There is a standing rule that guides the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“The fact that they have alleged that former President Mudashiru Obasa has committed fraud is what worries all Lagosians.
“Our position is that lawmakers should ask the EFCC to examine and prosecute Obasa if he is found wanting.
“They should petition the police or the EFCC. The good thing is that they have asked him to step aside. He should be prosecuted.
“The responsibility of sending the necessary documents to the anti-corruption agencies lies with them. The businesses of the people and the State should not be affected by internal disputes or APC issues.
“We don't want to get into trouble with anyone. What we are concerned about is a state Assembly that is efficient and stable and that does the work of the people.

“Whatever is happening within them should not affect the functioning of the State Assembly. You know that local government elections are just around the corner.
“Lagosians are watching. They are well informed about the topic at hand. They must not suffer. “That is our concern.”
The chief spokesperson of the opposition party congratulated the newly elected first Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Lasbat Mojisola Meranda while urging her to prioritize the people of Lagos State over APC internal disputes.
He said: “We congratulate her because this has never happened in the history of the State. For women, this is a new day.
“For us, having congratulated her, we also believe that as a woman, she should understand the needs of Lagosians and focus on what is important to the people of Lagos State.
“This is more important than anything that happens within the Lagos APC. This has been happening with the last two speakers.
“The last Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon Adeyemi Kuforiji also went through the same thing. If you pay attention to what happened, accusations or political trials always arise when elections approach.
“The same thing happened during the mandate of the Hon. Kuforiji, who had allegedly committed fraud. If you remember, they sent it to the EFCC.
“It was done because of his gubernatorial ambition at the time. In APC, whenever a speaker decides what to contest an election, a problem always arises. I can't speak for Obasa, I'm just talking about the fact that he is on the ground.
“This is a problem within the APC that they must resolve. They should resolve their issues and not allow this to affect the functioning of the state House of Assembly so that Lagosians do not suffer.”
