The former governor of Abia State, who served from 1999 to 2007, also shared this message on his verified Facebook page on Monday.

He posted photographs of himself with farmers working on farmlands.

Hardship

Nigeria has been facing severe economic challenges as the prices of commodities continue to rise.

Recent protests have erupted across states in Nigeria in response to the economic hardship.

Many Nigerians believe that President Bola Tinubu’s removal of crude oil subsidy on 29 May has contributed to the hardship in the country.

Agriculture to the rescue?

Mr Kalu emphasized the importance of agriculture in ensuring food security, creating job opportunities, and boosting the economy.

He urged people to utilize the fertile lands in their region and cultivate crops that are in high demand.

According to Mr Kalu, the farmers in his district have positively responded to the call to return to agriculture, seeing it as a viable option during times of economic uncertainty.

He mentioned that many farmers have started planting crops like cassava, maize, and vegetables.

Training of farmers

Mr Kalu expressed his commitment to supporting farmers by providing funding and training.

He stated that he has been providing similar assistance in the past through his foundation.

Due to his previous support, the agricultural sector in his constituency saw significant growth, resulting in increased food production and improved livelihoods for farmers.

He assured that he will collaborate with agricultural experts to ensure farmers have access to modern farming techniques and technologies.

The senator appealed to the federal government to implement an agricultural program to assist rural farmers in need of government support.

He encouraged farmers to remain hopeful and pray for the administration of Mr Tinubu, believing that the hardships will soon come to an end.
