India: Elon Musk's Starlink signs deal with Aurtel

Must Read

Elon Musk Starlink has been associated with Airtel, the second major telecommunications provider in India, to introduce satellite Internet services to the country, preparing the stage for a competition intensified with the confidence of Mikesh Ambani in JIO.

According to the agreement, Starlink will take advantage of Airstel's retail stores to distribute its devices throughout India. However, the agreement is subject to regulatory approval before Starlink can begin operations in the country.

Aurtel declared Tuesday that both companies would explore the use of the other's network infrastructure to improve coverage, although the details were not revealed. In addition, Airtel will consider offering Starlink services to your business and other customers.

The association follows a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Elon Musk in Washington, where they discussed key issues such as space, mobility, technology and innovation.

Starlink, who has been anxious to establish operations in India, recently found a dispute with Ambani Jio's confidence on the allocation of the satellite spectrum. While Reliance advocated an auction, the Indian government put on the side of Musk's position that the spectrum should be assigned administratively, aligning with global practices. Analysts suggest that an auction would require significant investment, potentially discouraging foreign players.

Ambani has expressed concern that Starlink entry could affect Reliance Jio, who invested $ 19 billion in wave auctions. It is speculated that Starlink could attract broadband customers and, in the long run, even challenge Jio's voice data and services.

Airtel already has a similar distribution association with the Global Satellite Company Etelsat, where its parent company has a participation.

Meanwhile, OneWeb and Reliance Jio de Eutelsat have obtained the approval of the Indian space regulator to launch broad -satellite broadband services in the country.
