The Imo State Police Command arrested six people who were involved in kidnapping and robbery in different parts of the state.

A police officer, ASP Henry Okoye, said the kidnappers were caught by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. They acted quickly, using smart moves and thorough investigation. They saved a person who was kidnapped and found a homemade shotgun, a pump-action gun, two live cartridges, and seven bullets.

On August 18, the police got a call about a 26-year-old woman kidnapped from her home in Obinze, Owerri West.

The Police Chief, CP Aboki Danjuma, sent the Anti-Kidnapping Unit with all their tools and information to catch the kidnappers and save the woman.

“Following orders, the unit went to a forest in Avu and found the kidnappers there.

“During the operation, they saved the kidnapped woman without any harm and arrested five men: Umaru Usman (40) from Sokoto, Tukur Yau (25) from Kano, Musbau Sabo (18) from Kano State, Abdul Ibrahim (30) from Sokoto, and Jubrin Idris (35) from Sokoto.

“They had a pump-action gun, five cartridges, two daggers, a cutlass, and some magic charms,” the officer said.

ASP Okoye added that these men were part of a well-known gang that kidnapped and scared people in Obinze, Avu, and nearby areas. The police are still looking for more gang members to arrest.

On August 21, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit also arrested another man named Nwauba Alex (25) from Ebonyi State. He was caught during a robbery near Aladinma Primary School, Owerri.

During his arrest, they found a homemade pistol, two bullets, and torchlights. They saved the robbery victims unharmed.

“The suspect admitted to the robbery and said he bought the gun from someone in Ebonyi State.

“The police are now trying to catch the person who sold him the gun,” the officer said.

The police said these arrests show their strong commitment to fighting crime and keeping people safe.

Police Chief Danjuma praised the officers for their good work and asked them to keep working hard to reduce crime in the state.
