Before the local government elections on September 21, a political party called the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Imo State has announced the fees for their interest forms. If you want to run for chairmanship, the fee is N150,000. If you want to run for councillorship, it is N50,000.
This announcement was made by the state chairman, Amb. Dr. Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, in Owerri, on Saturday while talking to news reporters.
He explained the breakdown of the fees like this: If you want to show interest in running for chairmanship, you pay N50,000. After that, you fill the Nomination Form, which costs N100,000. For councillors, showing interest costs N10,000, and the Nomination Form costs N40,000.
Good news for women and senior citizens: They only need to pay half of the usual fees. Even better news for Persons with Disabilities: They don’t have to pay anything at all for the forms.
Dr. Eluwa said they kept the prices low so that more party members could participate easily.
He also mentioned that the SDP believes in democracy. This means they want leaders who care about everyone and make life better for all people.
On another note, Dr. Eluwa praised the Supreme Court for giving more power to local governments. He said this decision is great for democracy. It will also help with good governance, bring more prosperity, and strengthen development in communities.
