ICPC: Over N13 Billion in Diverted Public Funds Recovered in September Alone

Must Read

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has found and brought back more than N13 billion of stolen public money in September 2024 alone.

ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu, shared this news during his speech at the launch of the ICPC Strategic Action Plan for 2024-2028 in Abuja. He called this a big win.

Dr. Aliyu said this victory shows how hard the commission is working to stop corruption and keep everything honest in Nigeria.

“Over the past years, the ICPC has been doing a great job in stopping corruption. For example, we got back over N13 billion of stolen public money in just September 2024.”

“This is just one way we are working very hard to keep our promise.”

“We are also improving our technology to make our work faster and better. This will help us in our investigations and make our internal processes smoother.”

“This change will make the commission a leader in using technology to fight corruption, keeping us ahead of bad activities in the digital world,”

he said.

Efforts to Stop Corruption and Bad Practices

Dr. Aliyu also talked about other ways to stop corruption in the country.

For example, he said the commission is making a special teaching plan to help their workers become better at their jobs.

“We all know that prevention is better than cure, so the ICPC is working hard to find weak spots and fix them. We do this through System Studies and Corruption Risk Assessments.”

“We continue to work closely with the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) in different government areas to strengthen our system from the ground up.”

“For the success of this plan, we need to work together with other agencies. The ICPC is committed to working with many partners to fight corruption,”

he said.

What You Should Know

Recently, the ICPC started a 12-member Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) within the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Newslodge reported that this was launched at the FIRS headquarters in Abuja. The unit’s job is to ensure there is no corruption or bad behavior in the revenue agency.

Dr. Musa Aliyu said this team’s job includes teaching staff about corruption, checking the systems for any weak spots, creating and enforcing ethical rules, monitoring budget use, and starting early investigations if needed.

According to Aliyu, this unit is part of the commission’s effort to control and prevent corruption in the system.
