IBB insists on unity to overcome challenges in the North

Must Read

Former military president General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has said that only through unity can the North overcome its many challenges.

IBB made the claim when officials of the North Star Youth Empowerment Initiative (NSYEI), headed by a former governor of Sokoto State, and the chairman of the movement's board of directors, accompanied by the co-chairman, Hajia Naja'atu Mohammed and its Director General, Dr. Abdullahi Idris, visited him on Thursday at his Uphill Mansion in Minna, Niger State.

IBB praised the activities of NSYEI and urged the movement to work hard to unite the north and ultimately the entire country.

He said: “Only through unity will the North be able to overcome its many challenges, which makes the birth of the North Star movement at this time as commendable as it is timely.”

IBB, however, warned the movement not to be deterred in achieving its noble objectives.

Earlier, the chairman of the board of directors of the movement, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa and former governor of Sokoto State, while reviewing the history of the formation of the movement, said that it was created to unite the north and pursue all the legitimate interests of the region.

Also speaking, the co-chairman and his director-general Hajiya Naja'atu and Dr Abdullahi respectively, reiterated the importance of unity among the diverse peoples of the north which, according to them, was the only way the region could pursue its interests as a strong and transcendent unity of the Nigerian federation.

They thanked the former president for his support and encouragement of the movement, promising not to let him or the region down.
