I Was Hungry: Man Explains Yam Theft in Court

Must Read

A man named Cletus Gandu, who doesn’t have a job and is 40 years old, said on Wednesday that he took two yams because he was very hungry.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, also known as NSCDC, said Gandu did something wrong by going into someone’s place without permission and stealing.

In the Magistrates’ Court in Kafanchan, Kaduna State, Gandu explained, “I was so hungry that I took yams two times. Please be kind to me.”

The judge, Michael Bawa, said that he will decide what will happen to Gandu on August 6 after Gandu said he did take the yams.

The judge also said Gandu must stay in custody until then.

Before this, Mr. Marcus Audu, who works for the NSCDC, said that a woman named Alice Daniel told them what happened on July 15.

Audu said that Gandu took the yams from Alice’s farm in a place called Zonkwa, and he did this two times.

Audu explained that what Gandu did goes against the rules in sections 327 and 270 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law.
