“I denied Davido access to my body, not our daughter Imade”

Davido’s baby mother, Sophia Momodu, has responded to the lawsuit the singer filed against her in the Lagos State High Court for the custody of his daughter, Imade.

PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that Davido, through his lawyers, petitioned the court to grant him joint custody of 9-year-old Imade, born in May 2015.

Davido’s lawyers, Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah and others, filed the suit on April 17, 2024.

Responding to Davido’s suit through her legal representative, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors and Bimpe Ajegbomogun & Co, Momodu, niece of famous journalist Dele Momodu, refuted the allegations the singer made against her.

Among several allegations, Davido alleged that Sophia, 37, turned down a N200 million apartment in a gated community with swimming pool and 24-hour water and electricity supply in Oniru, Victoria Island, Lagos, which she had bought for care suitable of Imade. .

The ‘Unavailable’ singer claimed that Imade’s mother demanded that he pay the nanny he hired $800 a month, for a total of $19,600 a year, as a lump sum.

He alleged that despite his efforts to ensure a better life for his daughter, Momodu continued to treat him with unwarranted cruelty and caused him significant pain.

However, reacting to Davido’s lawsuit, Momodu stated that he only denied being intimate with the music star.

She revealed this in a statement on Saturday by her legal representatives, Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors and Bimpe Ajegbomogun & Co., published in Pulse.

It read in part: “David Adeleke and Sophia Momodu were in a relationship between 2014-2017 and 2020-2022. During this time, David provided financial support to his daughter, covering school fees, rent and other living expenses, including the cars mentioned in the article. Sophia ended the relationship with David in July 2022. Since then, David has repeatedly threatened to make Sophia’s life miserable if she does not make herself available to him sexually.

“Sophia has never denied David access to his daughter, only access to her body and her privacy, which he does not agree with. David is in a publicly known relationship and Sophia wishes him the best. “She seeks to move forward in her life free of harassment and verbal abuse.”

The 37-year-old businessman alleged that Davido abandoned Imade for more than two years.

Accusations

Momodu further alleged that the 31-year-old singer decided not to see her daughter or honor special events.

“David has not seen our daughter since July 2022 by his own choice. Sophia has never denied him the opportunity to see her daughter. He has not approached her on special occasions, such as her birthday or her Christmas, for the past two years, which has left her daughter distraught and wondering why her father cut off contact. with her. Despite this, David posts images of her on social media to falsely present himself as an active and supportive father.”

Additionally, the statement alleges that Sophia has solely borne the expenses, including rent, living and travel expenses, medical care, and all other expenses related to her daughter over the past two years.

“Since July 2022, David has not met his financial responsibilities towards his daughter, resulting in her school fees being unpaid. His daughter’s school contacted him several times regarding fees for the 2021/2022 and January 2023 school term, with no response. Legal advice was sought in February 2023, resulting in David’s father, Mr Adedeji Adeleke, finally paying the outstanding fees. “Despite this neglect, Sophia firmly maintains that the most important support David can provide to her daughter is her presence and emotional support,” she reads in the statement.

The businesswoman said she began legal proceedings to establish a formal co-parenting agreement with Davido two years ago. Still, according to her, Davido and his legal team consistently refused to cooperate to achieve a mutually acceptable resolution.

Instead, he alleged that they attempted to discredit and isolate Sophia and her daughter using David’s influence and social network.
