The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 16-year-old Aisha Suleiman, who allegedly killed her ex-boyfriend, Emmanuel Elogie, and four others.

Aisha is alleged to have poisoned pepper soup intended for her 19-year-old ex-boyfriend, who unknowingly shared it with his friends.

The incident sparked a major debate on social media last month, with many Nigerians expressing shock and wondering what could have led Aisha to take such drastic measures.

Some Nigerians who condemned the inhumane act called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances involving Emmanuel and his friends and demanded the arrest of Aisha after her photo surfaced online.

However, in response to the public outcry, the Edo Police, in a statement posted on its Facebook page on Thursday and signed by its spokesperson Moses Yamu, confirmed the incident and Aisha's arrest.

Yamu claimed that Elogie Ezekiel, the father of Aisha's late ex-boyfriend, reported the incident to the police on October 26.

Yamu said the late Emmanuel and his four other friends were found dead in a room in Afashio community, Uzairue, Etsako West Local Government Area of ​​the state.

The statement read: “The command received a report on 10/26/2024 at around 0730 hours, from one Mr. Elogie Ezekiel of Afashio community, who at around 0630 hours on the same date, went to check on his son named Emmanuel Elogie, 19 years old in his apartment.

“That upon entering the apartment, he found the lifeless body of his son's friend named Nurudeen, surname unknown, 'm' in the hallway, he went further and found the lifeless bodies of his son with his girlfriend Ada Samuel 'f ' 16 years old on the bed in the bedroom, while two (2) other friends of the son named Samuel Ayegwalo and Jeffrey Ayegwalo, who happened to be brothers, were found in the living room. “They were evacuated to the hospital where the doctor confirmed their death.”

Furthermore, the police spokesperson added that Aisha was arrested just as she was about to be lynched by a group of angry youth from the community.

Yamu further confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough and discreet investigation.

“On 10/29/2024, at approximately 5:10 p.m., officers of the Jattu Division received information that a girl later identified as Aisha Suleiman 'f' 16 years old, allegedly caused the death of Emmanuel Elogie and four others (4 ) people with food poisoning, was about to die. being lynched by some young people from the community.

“They mobilized to the scene, rescued the suspect at the police station and transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department the next day for a discreet investigation.”

Yamu further stated that Commissioner Umoru Ozigi has conducted a thorough investigation and stressed that every effort will be made to discover the cause of death of Emmanuel and his friend.

He said the commissioner also warned against any act of jungle justice, assuring the public that justice will prevail once the investigation is completed.
